Ashwin & Kohli strike the deal for Team India – India goes 1-0 up in the four-Test series

Team India remains unrivaled as they ride on Ashwin’s 7/83 to secure their biggest win on foreign soil.  It surely took him a few sessions to gather pace but once Ashwin found his rhythm he dismantled the West Indies line-up to seal India’s first innings win. This is India’s biggest one outside Asia and a special one for Kohli.
On day 4 India needed 8 wickets to win the game post lunch, with Ashwin’s off-spin attack the hosts collapse from 88/2 to 132/8 on a penultimate day.
Mohammed Shami, in his first over of the morning, hit Samuels’ glove and offered a low chance to Wriddhiman Saha. The wicketkeeper claimed immediately. New coach Anil Kumble, watching from the stands did react by lifting his finger post replay, however, the replays – were not adequate enough and didn’t return a verdict beyond a reasonable doubt, nor was there any signal from the on-field umpires. So the benefit of that doubt went to Samuels.
Virat Kohli wasn’t amused by the decision. He was seen having an animated conversation with Ian Gould, after which Kohli tried to get an over before stumps, but Gould denied.
Samuels and R. Chandrika managed to hold India up for 22 overs, which did create a little problem for India and once again, India was unable to get rid of the old habit holding on to the tailenders after dismantling most of the batting order. Carlos Brathwaite and Devendra Bishoo put together a valiant stand (of 69 runs) for the ninth-wicket by tea.
After returning from break Ravichandran Ashwin all the way managed to get the remaining wickets of the West Indian innings within an over to bring the first test to end, completing an innings and 92 run win for the hosts! Ashwin finished with his 2nd-best Test figures of 7/83, complementing his first innings century. India goes 1-0 up in the four-Test series and the hosts will be looking to level the score in the coming tests, so India will have to work harder to keep up with the expectations and take a 2 match lead in the game.
Score Highlights: IND 566/8 declared.  (Kohli 200, Ashwin 113, Dhawan 84, Mishra 53) beat West Indies 243 (K Brathwaite 74, Dowrich 57* Yadav 4-41, Shami 4-66) and (follow on) 231 (C Brathwaite 51*, Samuels 50, Ashwin 7-83) by an innings and 92 runs.
